Did you know? ………brought to you by Educational Ivy

I read today’s Prompt which ask me to give up one taste; sweet, salty, bitter, sour and some more which I don’t understand.

I give up none.

I love the fact that I can taste all the richness of the food and smells. Even the bad one. I enjoy in sweetness of chocolate, sourness of lemon, saltines of chips and bitterness of… Actually, I am not a big fan of bitter. but, I wouldn’t even give that one up.

My mum is not of such luck. She has asthma and serious allergy problems, she is allergic to dust. She has been to several surgeries in order to keep her nose clean from polyps. She has to take several medications and inhalers every day.

She has through all of this lost her sensor of smell which only comes back rarely.

But, what you maybe don’t realize is how connected smell is to taste. Sure, she can distinguish sweet from salty, but have you ever ate when you had a cold and your nose was clogged? Yes, exactly. No smell, no taste.

“Separate senses with their own receptor organs, taste and smell are nonetheless intimately entwined.” BrainFacts

Tastants, chemicals in foods, are detected by taste buds, which consist of special sensory cells. When stimulated, these cells send signals to specific areas of the brain, which make us conscious of the perception of taste. (…) Ultimately, messages about taste and smell converge, allowing us to detect the flavors of food.

I am blessed to taste all of it because:

“If you have allergies, that doesn’t mean your child is definitely going to have them too. But genetics does play a role. If you have allergies, there’s a 50% chance your child will. And if your spouse is also allergic, the chance your child will be too jumps to close to 75%.” WebMD

“Is Asthma Inherited? The simple answer to this question is, YES, a tendency to develop asthma is inherited.” asthma.partners.org

There is also one extra factor. I was born one month premature, which is bad because in the 8th month of pregnancy lungs are developed. If a baby is born in 7th month it is better because then she/he can artificially develop lungs in the incubator to the fullest. So, yes I am blessed and I am not giving anything away, not even for fun. 🙂

You can’t hold me down! | TFGSC – Day 29

This master piece of music and video production HAD to be on my Feel-good Songs Challenge…

You know Macklemore? The guy who made the hit “Thrift Shop” and amazing song “Same Love” speaking about prejudices against homosexuality in hip hop (not common!).

Well, he and Ryan Lewis are also a genius mix. This video and song are the proof. Some say he is another Eminem, which is really racist thing to say, everyone will jump on their toes if someone made that remark about two singers/rappers just because of their skin color. :/ I love Eminem, of course, but they have very different styles and priorities.

I hope for both Macklemore and Ryan many, many more years of changing the world and what society thinks hip hop is… ❤

I put my hands up! Like the ceiling can’t hold me… 🙂

“Raise those hands this is our party!

We came here to live like nobody was watching…”

My Love | The “Feel-good” Songs Challenge – Day 28

Baaaah! Two more days of this challenge of mine! I can’t say that I don’t enjoy in music and blog and everything they do when combined, but I love my freedom, what can I do? I love posting when I want to not because I have to. 🙂

Where and when I post? All I need really is a laptop and a wifi. 😀 I get ideas any time of the day/night. I ponder over them and think how it would look and what kind of medium I am going to put, if I’m going to share on social networks… My posts happen in my head. When it gets to the point that I am writing them, they are 90% already worked out. That of course, does not apply to the Daily Prompts, but for everything else – yes.

Today, June 28, I bring you the song I listened to probably over thousand times, no kidding. It is “My Love” of Justin Timberlake. I like his new songs like “Mirrors” and “Suit and Tie”, but I have a special relationship with this song… It was the “Golden Age” of his music when he cooperated with Timbaland (I made the Golden Age up just now). You ask why? I say;

Timberlake + Timbaland = Magic

What other could happen when a top class producer and top class musician work together?

I like the song, the beat, the lyrics, the choreography, the vibe… I like it even now, 8 years from its original publishing.

Enjoy, the goosebumps start at 1:34 😉

Tomato + tuna + yogurt = you won’t believe

Tomato + tuna + yogurt = you won't believe

It’s yummy time!

For today your experienced cook Ivy (not really) has prepared something difficult (not really). So, let’s get going! 😉

I wanted to make stuffed mushrooms for a while now, but then I found an amazing recipe online for tomato with tuna stuffing and I was immediately going “Ooooo”. I like to try things I never made. The original recipe had corn and some spices which I didn’t have, so I modified the original to my own version.

Tuna - Summer Edition

  • Servings: 4-6
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

6 tomatoes
2 cans of chopped tuna
2 firm yogurts
1 can of chopped olives

Wash tomatoes and get the inside out from the middle. Put a bit of salt inside and upside down while you prepare the stuffing.

Mix yogurt with tuna and olives, make it how you like it… Add more olives, or tuna, or less yogurt if you want too. Stuff the tomatoes and left in the refrigerator for a few hours. Serve cold.

I made home-made version of bruschetti with it. It was really easy, so there goes a recipe for that.

Bruschetti With Bacon

Bread (Old bread the best)
Garlic in powder

I cut three slices of bread and put them in a pan on a thin layer of oil. Fry the slices on both sides just for a minute or two. Put away and put oregano and garlic on with ketchup so the spices stay on the slice. (I put them additionally in a toast maker before putting the spices on) Put the bacon on top and you’ve made yourself a tasty crunchy snack.

I hope you like this, it really makes quick and tasty summer dinner or breakfast. Or lunch, it has no boundaries. 😀 This is an entry to Fiesta Friday #22 over at Andie’s. Go and check out the other entries!

I was taught that yogurt and tuna and tomato do not go together. They do. I wonder how many things I am still listening to (obeying) without even questioning them? It makes me wonder…

What’s your flava’, tell me what’s your flava’ ;) | TFGSC – Day 27

I know.

My mind, as I said before, goes to the song to connect pretty much… everything. 🙂 So, Daily Prompt is My flavor of ice cream, and I remembered the song from Craig David…

My flavor of ice cream is not something that exists already. It has to be some kind of hybrid. Chocolate with pieces of cherries on one side and lemon with pieces of cookies on the other side. Yumm!

Since I have a mind like Jukebox, this is up for today’s The Feel-good Songs Challenge. I love listening to Postmodern Jukebox on YouTube, they do covers of popular songs in Vintage style and I LOVE IT. 🙂 This is their version of Burn by Ellie Goulding. Enjoy!

Hugs | TFGSC – Day 26

“We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.” Virginia Satir (American author and psychotherapist)

We need hugs. It would be so neat when there would exist a vending machine on the street that would give out hugs. But, that would have to be a robot. Or a vending machine with hands. Which would be freaky.

And people probably wouldn’t use it because they “wouldn’t want to be seen as weak and in need of a hug”. I don’t know why I used apostrophes, nobody said that.

But the reality is that WE DO. Wouldn’t it be nice to come out from a difficult meeting or exam or day at work or hard conversation at the coffee shop and have someone (something) hug you? Wouldn’t it also be great to have that when coming from an awesome meeting, exams you passed, great day at work and amazing conversation at the coffee shop?

But there is none.

Since they make one, we have this:

And I can include the awesome Lonely Island who also feel under the category of parodies and spoofs. I was planning to put one of their songs in The Feel-good Songs Challenge, and they fit perfectly. 😀

Tell me quando, quando, quando… | TFGSC – Day 25

Ahhhhh… Michael Buble.

Double ahhhhhh… Laura Pausini. I just found out Nelly Furtado sings this. Well. Okidokey. 🙂 It still doesn’t change that:

Michael and Laura together – heaven for my ears. Proof is here; You Will Never Find

I am really looking forward a concert in November hihihihihi… Imagine if Laura Pausini comes! Weeee…

I am enjoying the holiday here and just chillaxin’…

Would you relive the past week? TFGSC – Day 24

I think this will be the shortest Daily Prompt ever. NO.

Ok, I have to elaborate… 🙂
When I read todays Prompt, I was surprised. Why? Because just last night I asked out of nowhere while we were watching the Croatia:Mexico game, “Would you go in future to find out the score if you could?” Sis straight up tells no, I tell no, dad is contemplating and says yes. Sis is moving the question on another level;
“Why would ask something like that if you wouldn’t do it and it is not possible?”
“I don’t know. Because I can?”

And we go back to game. We lost btw. And I really wouldn’t want to know that…

Past is in the past. Maybe if something so awesome happened I would relive it. But I’m not sure about that either, because that authentic reaction I would have on something awesome would not be as joyful the second time. If we are talking about changing the past if something unpleasant or sad happened… Well, we have all seen the movies about going back to past and changing things messed up the present and future. 😉

About the song… Eurovision flashback! 😀
Plus I really love Emmelie’s song Rainmaker, it puts me in good mood. That’s it folks for todays Feel-good Songs Challenge.

Love ya!
