How do your pets “behave” during the holidays?

Whether or not you celebrate Christmas on 25th December or on 7th January and New Year on 31 December or Chinese New Year (I don’t know the date), or you don’t celebrate anything religious, there is probably a time in your house when something is happening. Something is celebrated and things aren’t like they are rest of the year. Decorations come up, people are coming and going, there is more action and stuff going on than regular… And our pets get in the middle of all this. ๐Ÿ˜€

My cat is my only pet so far that I really had. Others were more like neighborhood pets when we kids would take care of some stray cat. Kiki was my first experience with cats + Christmas tree. Hahaha… Well. Lets just say we get presents, Kiki gets the big ass tree in the living room. ๐Ÿ˜€

First few years disasters were inevitable. She was playing with ornaments, getting them to fall of, crash few of the balls who left behind that sad silver magic dust of dead Christmas ball… One year she even knocked down the entire tree! ๐Ÿ˜€ I don’t know how she did it… But last few years she is showing more interest for the tree itself than the decorations. She had realized that we can’t reach her when she is under the tree so she goes there and munch on it, chewing…well…everything. Us yelling and shoo-ing her away doesn’t do much, she does it anyway when we go to sleep. Like a Santa. A hungry vegetarian Santa who munches on Christmas trees. Now that is a start of a horror movie.

My attempt of capturing the mischievous rascal today. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyhowdilywho… She is more chill with the whole Christmas season. Except – The New Year’s Eve.

We live in a place where people…how do I say it so it doesn’t sound wrong… Like to shoot things. Fireworks. Firecrackers. Firecrackers in a bottle. Rockets. Anything. As long as it’s loud, we do it. I am saying “we” for the sake of the story I don’t do it. I don’t have the time! I have to watch all the fireworks going on ๐Ÿ˜€

620_400_1356934898vatromet

Do not be mistaken – we have an official fireworks going on somewhere in the central square, but we have like thousands of mini fireworks all over the town to gaze upon when the clock hits midnight. For me, that is the best part of New Year’s Eve. For my cat, you guessed right, the worst.

So, we have to take pills from the vet and drug her two times that day so she is a bit sleepy and calmer, otherwise she is hysterical, meowing, panicking and pooping all over the house. It may seem funny but I feel so sorry for her when I see her in such fear. Also, a lot of pets run away, they get scared of the noise. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ That is why I am all up for forbidding all the stupid shooting.

Except for the fireworks. ๐Ÿ˜€

OK, a little less of the fireworks. Fine.

That actually hurt to write.

Merry Christmas from Ivy :)

I hope you are well and having a great time… Enjoy! โค

That’s me in the red ball and yes, I DO have the Santa Claus hat on. ๐Ÿ˜€

The holidays… you don’t have to “hate it or love it”, you can adjust it to YOU

Do you love Christmas? Or Christmas season?

I used to LOVE it, then hate it, like really hate it… And now in the past few years I love it once again.

So, I was at both ends. ๐Ÿ˜‰

a-ha-ha-cat-christmas-funny-wreck-the-tree

Many people don’t like Christmas music we are bombarded from the end of November. (For the love of God, that’s not even in December!) Of course we don’t like it, it’s TOO MUCH. So, guess what? I don’t listen to radio. I just don’t. I have freedom of actions that helps me turn off the radio. I turn it on or go on Christmas playlist when I feel like it, most likely on Christmas Eve.

On certain places I can’t avoid it that’s for sure. But I tend to go shopping in smaller stores so I am not stuck there for an hour listening to “Jingle Bells” 20 times. XD

Other things are decorations. We are lucky, here in Zagreb, government does not light the street decorations until December 1st. And it’s lovely to see some lights and stars and stuff you don’t get to see all year while the weather is so cold it is promising snow. ๐Ÿ™‚

The one thing that makes me love this part of year is the fact you can UNLEASH your inner creative self. ๐Ÿ’ก

And for a creative bundle of ideas like me, that’s awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚ Pull out your colored papers, scissors, glue, all sorts of paint, candles, sprays…. Go nuts with it! You can make your own decorations, you can make presents for other people, you can just plain entertain yourself….For Do It Yourself or DIY this is an awesome part of year. ๐Ÿ™‚

I already made some stuff (for Christmas and non-related) and since I am so behind in presenting it here, I will do a different post. With all the pictures, I promise ๐Ÿ˜€

DIY Christmas Ornaments from yarn and rope

This year I was surfing a lot through ideas for decorating with some sort of rope or yarn… I already have grapevine balls for my tree that go regularly on it, but it is different when you can and have time to make something on your own. It’s better. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am interested in these type of ornaments because:
a) It is CHEAP. I mean, you literary spend minimal amount of money
b) It’s fun and you can make it however you like and the color you like it in.

Christmas-Star-Ornament

So, the tutorial. I was searching one for the Christmas balls and found in this video exactly what I wanted to show you. If do make time to make them on my own, I won’t have time to post and blog as much through the holidays, so I’m putting it now. ๐Ÿ™‚

For the other decorations I have asked very nice lady from FB to send me the photos of her little – but awesome project. And she did. Thanks Viลกnja! ๐Ÿ˜‰

So there it is:
All that you need is aluminum foil, bowl, rope, glue (glue for wood) and spray. First you put the foil over the bowl and then start to make shapes with rope soaked in glue. When you are satisfied you leave it to dry, spray the paint you want and there you go. Your very own DIY decorative bowl!

Do It Yourself Candle Holder :)

IMG_0026

I made this awesomeness form an old hair brush

It is super simple to do and super effective to have…

Fotor121643043

Just remove the bottom of a round old brush and take out the inside. Paint the top – now bottom however you like – I was Christmas inspired so I painted it white and put some gold glitter. The tea candle would not be visible so I put three layers of styrofoam. And that is pretty much it. ๐Ÿ˜€

Fotor12164281

Last year I made a holder from a pudding plastic container hehe… i put some colored sand on the bottom, then styrofoam made into fake snow and on top a plastic snowflake. Also, I glued some decorations on the top.

p.s. If you don’t have a brush to make this you can also use a glass and aluminum foil, just pierce little holes in foil and put inside a glass, and a candle on bottom. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do It Yourself: Earrings!

Do It Yourself: Earrings!

Hiya! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have started to make ideas that were piling up in my head in actual items… And gathering all the stuff I need for the pre – Christmas projects and decorations. Yaaay! ๐Ÿ˜€

I made this earrings in my head first, I knew exactly how i wanted them to look like. Then in my luck, I have found awesome girl who helped me in finding all the specific parts, some of what she already had because she makes jewelry on her own. Beautiful jewelry if I can add. I think she ships only in Croatia but if you want to check her work out, go on this link: Le Chic.

Fotor120901322

I made this Christmas earrings – that’s how I call them – in about an hour, not calculating the time i thought I can add something with nail polishing the pendants… but that was a mistake. Except for a strong glue (I use glue for wood) I didn’t need really nothing else. I removed the hooks from earrings I will not use and glue zircons on the metallic/silver base. I put the big heart and small heart as a pendants – I made sure that will be possible when I was putting the zircons. The last step was to glue the hooks behind and voila! my Christmas earrings are done. I love them ๐Ÿ™‚

img_0005

What do you think? They will go perfectly with a sweater I bought which is blue and has big white heart from fake furย in the middle. It is hand-made and absolutely amazing. So, I’m going in the hand-made zone more and more, I ain’t even glancing behind… ๐Ÿ˜€

Weekly Photo Challenge | Last Christmas...

From the moment I woke up today I am singing this Xmas song. Don’t know why, don’t know how… (Couldn’t hear it anywhere because it is beginning of December)

I took some photos very dear to me last Christmas (2012) and didn’t had blog at a time, so this weeks theme Let there be Light is perfect. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Enjoy…

p.s. I will be making similar DIY Christmas ornaments like the one on the first photo.

Some of this week’s entries I loved:

photo 2-78I recently had a conversation with a sweet girl who works at a local fast food place. ย She told me that they are open 24 hours a day, all year, including Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She said that people drive through, at 6 am, to pick up breakfast for their entire family on Christmas mornings. ย She wasnโ€™t jaded or bitter. ย But she was sad. ย She said she wished she could be at home on these holidays. ย As she should be.

Now, I am concerned about the general lack of work ethic in our country. ย But working on holidays isnโ€™t about a healthy work ethic.

There is value in rest. ย There is value in taking a break. ย It renews the body, mind, and soul.

More and more companies are pushing or requiring their employees to work on holidays.

Why?

Because we demand it.

Because we canโ€™t go one day withoutโ€ฆ
